CHOOSING YOUR PLAYING SURFACE

breaker

So we give you a nifty customizer to give yourself a pretty accurate example of how your poker table will look.  The only problem with that is you can’t feel the fabrics or test them out, so your going to have to go off or research and opinions of those who do.

Choosing the ideal playing surface for your brand new poker room can be a daunting and difficult decision.  Our staff at Gorilla Gaming has tested countless materials through years of research and experience in the poker world at home games, casinos, and even in bar poker leagues.  We hope you find our opinions to be invaluable in choosing your table that should last a lifetime.

Bet Line

Although this blog is about cloth choices, the biggest question we get is how can they get a “bet line” on their table, so I though I would address that first and foremost.  If you notice, a lot of your elite tour’s and series like the WSOP actually have gone away from bet lines and just use the forward motion rule as a rule of thumb when discerning intent of the player.  So don’t think it is a must when having an “official table” by any means!

If you absolutely have to have a bet-line on your table, you one and only one option… Custom Gaming Suede.  Custom gaming suede goes through a process of die-sublimation, and that allows the cloth to be virally unchanged outside of it’s color.  You can do photo-realistic images right on the cloth.. maybe overkill for just wanting a bet line, but its a great solution and has gotten much cheaper these days.

There is no process of painting, silk screening, spray painting (yes a video actually exists of someone spay-painting a bet-line) or stickers that has ever worked in the long term.  They all wear out, flip up the cards, or just look like hell.  Save yourself some aggravation in the long term and just get the custom cloth.

On to the cloth choices….

Standard Speed Cloth

Great for self dealt home games 1-2 times per month.

Our only reason for calling our speed cloth “basic” are because it is the cheapest decent option for covering your table.  If the correct color options are chosen, they still can look amazing.  The cloth is water proof for about 5-10 uses and then the liquids seem to stop beading.

This is the cloth that is imported and made in china. It’s a little thiner then our premium and pattern is not as crisp, but when on the table it is nearly unnoticeable the difference between the two.

Downside

durability and water resistance less than premium

– not made in U.S.A

– less color options

– professional dealers do not like speed cloth

– no bet line

Premium Speed Cloth

Great for self dealt games, leagues, or events playing 4+ times a month

So your looking to run a lot more events for players in a self dealt environment?  Your a little less cost sensitive because you know you will use the table a ton.  The premium speed cloth is a great choice.  We have both Suited and Mini-Suited cloth options.

The premium diamond suited pattern is about 1.5” in size and the mini-suited is 1” in size.  Personally, I feel the 1” is too small when it is put together, but there are tons of people that prefer the look to it!  Only you can make that decision when it’s put together.

Upside

– Attractive pattern and

– Tons of Interesting color choices

– Water resistance

– Very Durable (same threads are used in commercial carpeting)

– Super fast and cards glide with ease

Downside

– less soft in comparison to gaming suede

– professional dealers do not like speed cloth

– no bet line

Gaming Suede

Great for casino tables or home games looking for a plush feel and look.

Maybe I am crazy and just love the soft touch and feel when peeling up the cards when your at a nice and soft gaming suede.  It almost makes me feel more relaxed and comfortable at the table.  Playing on a soft gaming suede and a comfortable chair can be the best way to make your patrons comfortable at the game.

When the right color combinations are chosen that complement the room they are in, your room will look just as luxurious as some of the nicest poker rooms in the country.

If you are going to a larger table for self dealt games, with inexperienced players pitching ht cards, it will be nearly un-playable.  Good luck getting the players at opposite ends to pitch the cards 8+ feet.  Circle tables 54” or less would be perfectly fine, but for those that insist on going for the full size rectangle, stick with the speed cloths.

Upside:

– Soft Touch and feel

– Luxurious look to the table

– Professional dealers prefer gaming suede

– Maximum Durability

Downside:

– cards glide but just not as well as speed cloth

– tables more than 72” long will have trouble dealing end to end

– no bet line unless

Custom Gaming Suede

Great for anyone looking to add a bet line and/or complete control of fabric design and color.

We use the same vendors and many of the casinos on the strip of Las Vegas, so you are getting the same experience and durability that would be expected from a casino table.  The cloth starts off white and the color or design is dyed right into the property of the cloth.

Upside:

– Soft Touch and feel

– Luxurious look to the table

– Professional dealers prefer gaming suede

– Maximum Durability

– Fully customize-able with the ability to add a bet line.

Downside:

– cards glide but just not as well as speed cloth

– tables more than 72” long will have trouble dealing end to end

– no bet line unless
